Why do we host this tournament?
The Banderas Rotary Club, since inception, has promoted and supported many projects to benefit the youth of southern Nayarit and northern Jalisco states. Included in these projects are:
• Leer y Crecer: A project to promote reading on the part of elementary students in public schools.
• Frey Junipero Serra Elementary School: Update school electrical service, plumb a drinking water fountain, equip and configure a computer lab.
• Christmas Celebration: Annually providing toys and a party for under-privileged children in the colonias of Bucerias, Mescales, and La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.
• Casa Hogar: This on-going project has resulted in an orphanage in Bucerias. Rotary is a big part of this communitywide effort.
• Becas Vallarta: This long-standing organization has provided university scholarships to needy youth in Bay. Rotary annually provides assistance in funding these scholarships.
• Wheel Chairs: An annual worldwide project sponsored by Rotary International is providing wheelchairs to needy people in all nations. Last year, through the combined effort of the Rotary Clubs in the Vallarta area, 600 wheelchairs were distributed.
• Horse Therapy: Several area youth, sponsored by the Banderas Rotary, have been helped through a unique program that use horses as therapeutic tools in helping handicapped individuals. The Club is exploring a similar program using dolphins.
• Manos de Amor: The commercial kitchen in the new orphanage in Bucerias will be a collaborative contribution from Bahia Banderas Rotary, the Rotary Club of Invermere, B.C., Canada, and Rotary International.
• Ama Mexico: A conservation group dedicated to the conservation of the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle as well as protecting the biosphere of the Banderas Bay Area. Banderas Rotary donated a computer to assist with ongoing education and research programs.
All of the proceeds from this special golf tournament will be used to support these and other programs for youth. Through their sponsorship of this event, all of the businesses and organizations listed on this brochure believe in the youth of our community and in our obligation to nurture and develop them, for they are the future.
